Big Heart, Bold Spirit, and a Balanced Soul
Meet Haus, the undisputed "big brother" of the Arvin 10. While his siblings were navigating the transition from the fields of Arvin to the sanctuary, Haus stepped up with a level of confidence and curiosity that has made him a joy to work with.
The Sequoia Profile:
The "Heavy Lifting" Progress:Haus has been medically stabilized after his time in the field. He is thriving on our nutritional protocol and is showing the kind of bold, stable temperament that makes him an ideal "turn-key" candidate for a rescue partner.

The Discovery: In the industrial heart of Bakersfield, Arlo was found living in a sump area—a place where water collects and trash accumulates. He wasn't just a stray; he was a ghost in the city, surviving on whatever he could find while dodging traffic and the harsh elements. He was found abandoned, a young dog with an old soul, waiting for someone to notice him.
The Transformation: Pulling Arlo off the streets was the first time he felt safe. Since arriving at Sequoia, this black-and-white Heeler has shown us that his natural instincts are matched only by his resilience. He has transitioned beautifully into sanctuary life, revealing a loyal and intelligent personality that was hidden under the grime of the sump.
The Goal: At 10 months old, Arlo is a "ready-to-go" companion. He is sterilized, vaccinated, and possesses his beautiful natural tail. He is a testament to what happens when we pull a dog out of the dirt and give them a place to belong.

The Discovery: Chance’s story began in a way that haunts every rescuer—being given away for free in a Walmart parking lot. He and his sibling were at the mercy of whoever happened to walk by. A kind woman stepped in to save them, but while the female found a home, Chance was left behind once again. He arrived at our sanctuary at a year old, a "leftover" dog who didn't understand why he wasn't chosen.
The Journey: Chance has spent the last two years with us. During that time, we have watched him grow into a stunning, brown short-haired Husky with unique white "socks" and a white-tipped tail. He has been patient, but two years is a long time to wait for a family. He has been stabilized, de-compressed, and loved, but he is missing his "person."
The Goal: Chance is a "unicorn" of a dog—unique in look and resilient in spirit. He is fully vetted and ready to prove that the dog who was once "free" in a parking lot is actually a priceless companion.

The Story: Maylee’s name was on a list. Not a list for food or a list for a home, but a local high-kill shelter’s euthanasia list. She was just hours away from becoming a statistic—another "unwanted" Queensland Heeler in a system that was too full to care. Sequoia Dog Sanctuary stepped in at the final hour, pulling her from the kennel and into the fresh air.
The Recovery: Maylee arrived with the intelligence and intensity of her breed, but her spirit was dampened by the shelter environment. We gave her the space to decompress and the time to realize that the "heavy lifting" was over. Today, she is a vibrant, white-and-black Heeler mix who is as intelligent as she is loyal.
The Goal: Maylee is fully vetted and ready for a breed-savvy home that understands the Heeler heart. She has her natural tail and an endless capacity for loyalty—she just needs a partner who believes in second chances as much as we do.

These dogs are currently under the dedicated care of our fosters and medical team. They aren't available for adoption quite yet, but we are accepting inquiries from rescue partners.

These pups have just joined us! We are currently observing their health and searching for any original owners during their mandatory stray hold. If no owner is found, they’ll be ready for their new families soon.

Status: On Stray Hold & Decompressing
Boon is one of three siblings (including Vida and Trax) who came to us two days ago after a whirlwind of a week. After being dumped twice in two days, he is finally safe and sound. Boon is currently finishing his stray hold and focusing on decompressing from the stress of his journey. He’s a smart pup who has already started his training! He will be getting his first shots and his neuter surgery scheduled very soon.

Status: On Stray Hold & Decompressing
Meet Trax! He and his siblings, Vida and Boon, joined our pack two days ago after a rough start that included being abandoned twice in two days. Trax is currently observing his legal stray hold while he settles in and learns to trust again. We’ve already begun his initial training, and he will be heading to the vet soon for vaccinations and to be scheduled for his neuter. Keep an eye on this brave boy as he gets "rescue ready."

Status: On Stray Hold & Decompressing
Vida is a resilient girl who has been through a lot in a short time. She arrived two days ago alongside her brothers after being heartbreakingly dumped twice in just 48 hours. Currently, Vida is in her mandatory stray hold and is spending her time decompressing in a quiet, safe space. She is already starting her basic training and will soon receive her first round of shots and be scheduled for her spay. She isn't ready for a new home just yet, but she is working hard to get there!
At Sequoia Dog Sanctuary, we specialize in the "in-between." We take dogs from the fields and shelters of Kern County and provide the medical and behavioral "heavy lifting" they need to thrive. Whether you are a Rescue Partner looking for a stable addition to your program or a Potential Adopter searching for your next family member, you can trust that a Sequoia dog has been set up for success.
For Rescues: We act as your specialized "foster bridge," handling the initial medical and behavioral intake so you can focus on finding the perfect home.
For Adopters: We provide a deep dive into the dog’s personality and needs, ensuring that when they leave our gates, they are walking into a life where they—and you—will succeed.
The mission at Sequoia Dog Sanctuary doesn’t stop at adoption. Because we specialize in pulling dogs from the "Red List" and rescuing those living on the streets, our needs go far beyond just finding forever homes. We are always looking for passionate people to join our pack in other ways:
